Rwenzori Mountains the snow scapped Mountain which is referred to as the highest in Uganda with 3 peaks is one of the adventurous mountain to hike, Mt Elgon in the Eastern side of Uganda is another interesting mountain to hike.

Itinerary

Day 1 Welcome hiker

Our experienced exciting guide will give you a warm welcome to Uganda at Entebbe airport. Straight from Airport you will feel our friendliness. Feel the wonderful fresh weather and see part of the second largest Lake in the World Lake Victoria. While at the Hotel of your choice, our driver guide will brief you about the whole your safari that Divine tours is offering you.

Day 2Journey to Rwenzori Mountains

The journey to Rwenzori Mountains passes through Kasese through the captivating attractions like the royal drum makers, the Equator giving you chance of being in both hemispheres at once. This beautiful journey goes through roadside markets aerated with fruit and vegetables. Continuing to the escarpment overlooking the Great Rift Valley before getting to your hotel and the Rwenzori Mountains acting as a majestic backdrop is worthy. Dinner and overnight at Equator Snow Lodge/Margherita Hotel.

Day 3Nyakalengija trailhead (1600m) to Nyabitaba (2650m)

Adventurous hiking to Rwenzori Mountains starts from Nyakalengija trailhead (1600m). Through the banana shambas on the side of the steep foothills and also the homesteads at the foothills then following the trail along the Mubuku River is great. The hiking of Rwenzori Mountains continues by crossing the Mahoma River then climb through slopes and Podocarpus forest. Dinner and Overnight at Nyabitaba Hut.

Day 4Heading to John Matte (3350m)

From the Nyabitaba hut, passing through a small trail slopping down through the forest to the Kurt Shafer Bridge below the convergence of the Bujuku and Mubuku Rivers is another stage in Rwenzori Mountains. Hiking out of the forest in Rwenzori into a bamboo zone by a long stretch of slippery moss-covered ground is adventurous. Through the zone of lobelia, the giant heather and groundsel, to Nyamileju rock shelter then pass across a laborious bog to your hut. Dinner and Overnight at John Matte Hut.

Day 5To Bujuku (3900m)

Another trail in Rwenzori Mountains that crashes down to cross the Bujuku River then enters Lower Bigo Bog, home of giant lobelias. Crossing the bog to the Upper Bigo bog, continue to Bujuku Lake, giving an opportunity to view one of the high peaks mountain Stanley to the West. Dinner and overnight at Bujuku Hut.

Day 6To Elena (4541m)

From Bujuku hut, the adventurous trail heads to the slopes west of the lake through the paranormal Groundsel Gully then ascend to Scott-Elliot Pass (4372m). Passing over an extremely steep section up to Elena Hut and Mt Stanley over a steep rocky trail, while the left leads to Scott-Elliot Pass and down to Kitandara Lakes. Dinner and overnight at Elena Hut (4541m) at the base of the Stanley Glacier.

Day 7Elena Hut (4541m) to the peak (5109m) or begin the descent to Kitandara Hut (4023m)

For those who do not want to climb the Magherita peak will transfer from Elena Hut to Kitandara Hut (4023m). And those who want to continue to the Margherita peak (5109m) will have three hours up and later down to Kitandara Hut. Climb on to the glacier moving on to the Stanley Plateau to the Margherita summit, the highest point of the Rwenzori Mountain. Back through Scott-Elliot view the magical Bujuku Lake and Mt Speke at a distance then down to the Kitandara Lakes. Dinner and overnight at Kitandara Hut.

Day 8To Guy Yeoman (3260m)

After breakfast, a sharp climb from the base of Mt Baker to the south side of the mountain to Freshfield Pass (4280m). Views into the Congo to the west and Mt Stanley to the north are possible. From the pass, the boggy pass continues downwards, passing the rock shelter at Bujangolo, the base camp for the historic expedition by the Duke of Abruzzi in 1906. Dinner and overnight at Guy Yeoman Hut .

Day 9Descent to Nyabitaba (2650m)

Trail down to Nyabitaba Hut. Dinner and overnight at Nyabitaba Hut.

Day 10Descent to trailhead (1600m)

Descend to Ibanda kasese and continue to Fort portal then to Mountains of the Moon hotel for an overnight.

Day 11To the home of the Mountain gorillas

After breakfast, you will drive to Nkuringo passing through the traditional homesteads and enjoy panoramic views. You will have an enroute visit to the Batwa Pygmies in Mgahinga. Dinner and overnight at Nkuringo Gorilla Camp.

Day 12Gorilla tracking

Looking in the eye of the gorilla will be the highlight of the whole safari! Especially hikers will love the tracking in the beautiful ecosystem of the park. Expect to walk a long distance in steep and muddy conditions, sometimes with rain overhead, before you encounter any gorillas. But it will definitely be worthwhile as you observe them closely while they eat, play and rest. A unique and unforgettable experience! Dinner and overnight at Nkuringo Gorilla Camp.

Day 13Bwindi - Kampala

You will drive to Cassia Lodge for an overnight. BB

Day 14Departure

Continue to Entebbe airport for your flight
