7 Days Uganda Primates and Wildlife Safari from Kigali is an extraordinary Uganda safari that starts and ends in Kigali Rwanda. Itinerary

Day 1of the 7 days Uganda primates and wildlife safari from Kigali

Arrival and transfer to Mgahinga gorilla national park, depending on the time of arrival on day 1 of the 7 days Uganda primates and wildlife safari from Kigali our representative will pick you up from Kigali international airport, brief you about the safari and then start the journey to Mgahinga gorilla national park in south western Uganda. The journey takes about 3 to 4 hours drive passing via Cyanika border in Kisoro district and on the way you will have en-route lunch and stunning views of the rolling hills in Rwanda, Kigezi hills, beautiful scenery, traditional homesteads, local people among others. Upon arrival you will check into the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 2Golden monkey trekking and transfer to Bwindi impenetrable national park

Golden monkey trekking, after an early breakfast on day 2 of the 7 days Uganda primates and wildlife safari from Kigali your driver guide will pick you up from the lodge and drive to the park headquarters for a briefing about the rules and regulations of golden monkey trekking. After the briefing you will be allocated an experienced park guide and start trekking in the jungle which takes about 30 minutes to 4 hours depending on where the golden monkeys are located. During trekking you will locate them by looking out for fresh leftovers of bamboo shoot or leaves because they do not leave behind clear evidence of where they slept the previous day. While in the forest you will be able to spot different bird species, tree and plant species and once the golden monkeys are found you will be allowed to spend one hour with them in their natural habitat where you will be able to watch them feed, play, move on top of trees, take photos and record videos with a flash less camera. After the one hour with the golden monkeys you will trek back to the park headquarters where you will meet up with your driver guide to transfer to the lodge for lunch.

Transfer to Bwindi impenetrable national park, after lunch you will check out of the lodge and meet up with your driver guide to transfer to Bwindi impenetrable national park. On the way you will have great views of the beautiful scenery, primates, homesteads, local people and upon arrival in the park you will continue to check into the lodge for an evening relaxation, dinner and overnight.

Day 3Gorilla trekking in Bwindi impenetrable national park

Gorilla trekking, after an early breakfast on day 3 of the 7 days Uganda primates and wildlife safari from Kigali you will carry packed lunch and meet up with your driver guide to transfer to the park headquarters for a briefing about the rules, regulations and expectations of gorilla trekking. After the briefing you will be grouped into 8 people, allocated a habituated gorilla family to trek and a park guide who is well conversant with trails in the forest. Gorilla trekking in Bwindi impenetrable national park starts at around 8:00am and takes about 30 minutes to 8 hours depending on where the gorillas are located because they like to move from one place to another in search of food, the allocation of gorilla families is done depending on your age, physical fitness and personal preferences because trekking is strenuous therefore in case you are not physically fit, you are advised to communicate with your driver guide so that they allocate you a gorilla family that is near to trek. 

During trekking you will be able to view other wildlife species such as forest birds, forest elephants, buffaloes, duikers, other primate species like chimpanzees, l’hoest monkeys, black and white colobus monkeys, different plants among others. once the mountain gorillas are found, you will be allowed to spend one hour with them in their natural habitat which gives you an opportunity to watch them carry out their daily activities like breastfeeding, feeding, playing, ask various information about the gorillas, learn about their behaviors, habits, take photos and record the breathtaking moments to show people back home after the safari. After the one hour encounter with the gentle giants you will trek back to the park headquarters where you will be awarded a certificate for participating in gorilla trekking, meet up with your driver guide to transfer to the lodge for an evening relaxation, dinner and overnight.

Day 4Transfer to Queen Elizabeth national park

After breakfast on day 4 of the 7 days Uganda primates and wildlife safari, you will check out of the lodge and meet up with your driver guide to transfer Queen Elizabeth national park which is the second largest national park in Uganda. The journey takes about 3 to 4 hours drive and on the way you will pass through Ishasha sector in the southern part of Queen Elizabeth national park where you will be able to view the tree climbing lions lying up in the acacia/fig tree branches. The tree climbing lions will be viewed alongside other animals like elephants, buffaloes, Uganda kobs during the game drive. After game drive you will have en-route lunch and then proceed to the park for an evening game drive where you will be able to view animals like buffaloes, elephants, warthogs, waterbucks, bushbucks, Uganda kobs, view different bird species, have beautiful views of the sun downer among others. After the game drive you will drive to check into the lodge, have dinner and overnight.

Day 5Day 5: Boat cruise and transfer to Kibale national park

Boat cruise, after breakfast on day 5 of the 7 days Uganda primates and wildlife safari from Kigali your driver guide will pick you up from the lodge to go for an exciting boat cruise on Kazinga channel a water body that connects Lake George and Lake Edward. During the boat ride which starts at around 9:00am and takes about 2 hours you will be able to view large herds of hippos and crocodiles in water, view elephants, buffaloes, antelopes along the shores drinking water, view water birds like hornbills, herons, cormorants, kingfishers, fish eagles, view the fishermen along the shores organizing their fishing gears for night fishing among others. After the boat cruise you will drive back to the lodge for lunch.

Departure to Kibale national park, after lunch you will check out of the lodge and meet up with your driver guide to go for another game drive in the park where you will be able to view some animals that you might have missed during the previous game drive. After having breathtaking views during the game drive you will drive out of the park to transfer to Kibale national park and on the way you will have great views of the crater lakes, Rwenzori mountain ranges, views of tea plantations among others. Upon arrival you will check into the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 6Chimpanzee trekking and Bigodi swamp walk

Chimpanzee trekking, on day 6 of the 7 days Uganda primates and wildlife safari from Kigali you will have an early breakfast and meet up with your driver guide to transfer to the park headquarters for a briefing about the rules and regulations of chimpanzee trekking. After the briefing you will be allocated a chimpanzee family to trek and an experienced park guide who will lead you into the forest. Trekking of chimpanzees in Kibale national park takes about 30 minutes to 4 hours depending on where the chimpanzees are located because they like to move from one place to another in search of food. Once they are found, you will be allowed to spend one hour with them in their natural habitat which helps you to ask the guide various questions about them, learn about their habits and behaviors, watch them feeding, playing, breastfeeding, grooming each other, resting, hunting among others. You will also be able to take great photos and record videos. After the face to face encounter with the chimpanzees, you will trek back to the park headquarters where you will meet up with your driver guide to return back to the lodge for lunch.

Bigodi swamp walk, after lunch you will go for an amazing nature walk in Bigodi sanctuary. During the nature walk where you will be accompanied by an experienced local guide you will be able to view different primate species such as grey cheeked mangabey, red tailed monkeys, vervet monkeys, view bird species like the great blue turaco, view beautiful butterflies, different plant and tree species, enjoy the cool breeze, breath fresh air among others. After the swamp walk you will return back to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 7 Departure to Kigali

On day 7 of the 7 days Uganda primates and wildlife safari from Kigali, you will have a relaxed breakfast, check out of the lodge and meet up with your driver guide to transfer to Kigali. You will have en-route lunch in Kabale town and then proceed the journey passing via Katuna border in Kabale, upon arrival your driver guide will drop you off at Kigali international airport for your departure flight or drop off at the hotel.
